(KTLA) – Fans of the Showtime series "Dexter" will soon learn how the Miami blood-splatter expert/vigilante serial killer began his journey.

In a post shared to Instagram on Thursday, Showtime revealed that the prequel series "Dexter: Original Sin" is "coming soon." They also announced three of its main cast members.

"Everyone’s favorite serial killer had to start somewhere," the post reads.

Actor Paddy Gibson ("The OA," "Shadow and Bone") takes over as the younger Dexter Morgan. Christian Slater ("Interview With the Vampire," "True Romance") will play Harry Morgan, Dexter's adopted father, a police officer for the fictional Miami Metro Police Department. Actress Molly Elizabeth Brown ("Billions," "Boy Shorts") will play Dexter's foul-mouth adopted sister Debra Morgan.

The series will be set in 1991 Miami, as Dexter deals with the challenges of being a forensics intern within the city's police department, while also balancing his urge to kill.

During this time, Dexter and Harry create "The Code," which Dexter must obey when choosing his victims without getting caught by law enforcement.

The Showtime series "Dexter," which was based on a series of crime novels by author Jeff Lindsey, aired for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013. Michael C. Hall played the avenging killer, with Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan and James Remar as Harry Morgan.

The continuation of the series, "Dexter: New Blood," aired on Showtime in 2021.

No premiere date has been announced for the prequel, which will be available on Paramount+ with Showtime.
